X says its updated web app is way faster

Summary

X says its rebuilt web app loads much faster, and it is rolling out to signed-in users one country at a time.

X's principal engineer Yagiz Nizipli said that on a slow connection, a profile's first post took more than 22 seconds to appear in the old web app but only 2.7 seconds in the new one. The rewrite also consolidates the three servers X previously ran for people, search crawlers and link previews into a single server.

Key points

  • Signed-in users are being moved to the new app one country at a time.
  • The logged-out X.com experience and search-crawled pages already run on the new app.
  • Security researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who had access, said it "feels snappy, loads fast and many parts are polished."
  • Nizipli described the technical changes in a blog post.
  • X web app
  • web performance
  • server infrastructure
